The newspaper NZZ has published much more Ageing Society-articles than the tabloid Blick or the free newspaper 20 Minuten, over the period 2014-2017.
How NZZ, Blick and 20 Minuten report about the Ageing Society and the implications for the Swiss people, that is what we want to find out in this project. Therefore, we are interested in articles that mention the Ageing Society, explicitly link it to the article’s topic (e.g. AHV-reform), and focus on the situation in Switzerland. Based on these criteria, we have composed a representative sample of the Ageing Society-articles published between mid-2014 and mid-2017 in these three newspapers.
This sample shows that the quality newspaper NZZ has published much more Ageing Society-articles (thus articles which fulfill the inclusion criteria above) than the tabloid Blick or the free newspaper 20 Minuten. If NZZ, Blick and 20 Minuten would all have published a similar amount of Ageing Society-articles, then from every ten articles in the sample, approximately three would stem from NZZ, three from Blick and three from 20 Minuten. In reality however, from every ten articles in the sample, circa eight derive from NZZ. The remaining articles are divided between Blick and 20 Minuten. It can hence be argued that (from 2014 to 2017) the “Ageing Society in Switzerland” was a much more important theme for the NZZ, as it was for Blick and 20 Minuten.
